The Expo hotel is located at the main entrance of the BNV in Budapest. The new owner wants to renovate the outdated façade and interiors of the 80s tower block, and has announced a design competition to find the concept.
Our design solved the need for new service spaces by extending the ground and first floors of the hotel, adding extra floor mass but not breaching from the basic form. This creates a visually harmonious and generous main entrance. The general levels have been basically retained, only the modernisation of the rooms and the complete interior renovation have been proposed.
The most striking renewal of the building concerns the façade and the roof, where we imagined a vertical, loose structure, solved with shading lamellas made of stone cladding. On the roof, we designed a large cantilevered projection that would give the tower a fresh and unique feel, making it attractive to visitors, while above the large roof would be outdoor pools and a panoramic restaurant.
