On the edge of the Szentendre Skanzen stands a wooden building built in the late 70s originally on the site of the BNV, but then moved here. Now in a dilapidated state, the building is used as an educational centre, and its renovation and extension has become current issue.

Our plan is to preserve and renovate the carefully crafted wooden structures, making them safe with appropriate fire safety equipment. The atrium in the centre of the building will be partially retained, but circulation will be normalised throughout the building. The façades are fully glazed, so that the workshop spaces open onto the grove surrounding the building. Shading is provided by wild grape vines strung on netting attached to the edge of the overhanging roof.

The extension would be built as a separate mass, with its solid, brick-clad enclosed form providing a contrast to the airy, timber-framed main building. By using wood, plant shading and fired ceramics as natural materials associated with the earth, the building complex would convey an environmentally conscious, modern yet harmonious message with the historic architecture of the Skanzen development.
